The Urban Cadance
"I started creating Urban Cadance in 2020 when it became clear the world was in need of more joy and more inclusion. Creating a safe and welcoming place for all students has become my mission. Urban Cadance is a scholarship program working with local dance schools to ensure any child who wants to dance has the opportunity. I am overjoyed to have donated $7000 so far, in scholarship money to The School at Open Space and Northwest Classical Ballet. I believe there is a place for everyone in dance, however this is an ongoing pursuit in order to evolve the dance community, every donation matters. 100% of donations goes directly to scholarships." -Sarah Fuhrman, Founder

MISSION STATEMENT
Urban Cadance provides an accessible environment for youth to explore and discover their sense of self with the intention of strengthening their self esteem and establishing self discipline. Through dance, we cultivate self empowerment and accomplishment.
How To Help
Urban Cadance is currently a scholarship fund partnering with The School at Open Space, a dance training program for young artists in North Portland. The School at Open Space provides mentorship opportunities as well as high caliber training in ballet, contemporary and jazz. With inclusion and accessibility at the heart of their programming, Urban Cadance and The School at Open Space are committed to creating a safe space for all to explore movement and find empowerment within themselves.
HOW YOUR DONATIONS WILL SUPPORT THE GROWTH OF DANCERS:
$75 = 1 month of dance for a little artist
$225= 1 month of dance for a level 3 artist
$375= 1 month of dance for a level 5 artist
$400 = 1 month of dance for a level 6 artist
$1175= A full year of tuition for a level 3 artist
$2000= a full year tuition for a level 6 artist
Education
With this initiative, our goal is to promote great opportunities for all students. With access to the right resources, people can become empowered by their own abilities and gain the confidence to fulfill their potential through dance. Founder and Director
Sarah Fuhrman
Sarah grew up in Portland dancing with The School of Oregon Ballet Theatre under Elena Carter. She worked as a company member with OBT for many years before exploring an opportunity furthering her training in St. Petersburg, Russia. Sarah continued her professional career with Colorado Ballet, State Street Ballet and Nevada Ballet Theatre. In Nevada, Sarah worked as rehearsal assistant to the company and the school, she also had the privilege of working with Cynthia Gregory who became a coach and mentor. Since retiring from ballet, Sarah has performed with Éowyn Emerald & Dancers, a contemporary dance company based in Scotland. Through her dance journey and with the guidance of Elena and Cynthia, Sarah has learned the value of finding one's personal voice through artistry and the empowerment that comes with setting and achieving goals with a strong work ethic. Currently, Sarah is the Artistic Director of Northwest Classical Ballet as well as teaching adult ballet at Bodyvox Dance Center. She uses her teaching platform to encourage dancers of all ages to find their personal empowered path through dance.
